What’s the difference in maintenance between a regular pool and a salt water pool?

Like a lot of people said here both salt and chlorine pools use chlorine in the end.

In my experience salt pools are a headache.

Cons of a salt water pool include higher costs associated with having to change the salt water generator as it breaks often (also super expensive). The pros are "softer" water...

Chlorine pool hardware is much cheaper - a chlorinator is $100 and will last you a lifetime. You can achieve "soft" by adding softener chemicals.

The reason I put "soft" in brackets is because some people swear they can feel it while others can't feel a difference.

Once I switched back to chlorine things have been much easier to maintain and keep the water chemistry in check. The most important thing is to make sure the chlorine levels are in check so the water is safe to swim in. Chlorine pools make that task much easier.
