What is your family's story on the Japanese Occupation?

To start off, my mother is Japanese and my dad is Malaysian born Chinese. My maternal side family.... well there’s a long history that dates back where someone in my family is a samurai. That’s something that I don’t really share with other people.

Scrolling through all comments... honestly I really want to apologise to those people that went through Japanese occupation.

Actually till this day, some of my classmates went up to me and ask things like “oh my teacher said Japanese people never admit their mistakes made in world war 2 right?” Seriously that’s rather hurtful to me. I mean.... how do you want me to answer this question; being born as a Japanese-Chinese. And just recently Hokkaido had an earthquake and my grandparents were staying there. My English teacher share it in class and he said “some people say that it’s their retribution.” Though he said it jokingly.

I just hope that people can put the past as past and learn to move on.
