A temperature 'pill' to monitor soldiers? What the SAF is doing to combat heatstroke

I personally think that SAF is doing a fantastic job when it comes to heat injuries. If I had to have a heat injury, I would prefer it happen while in an SAF camp rather than anywhere else - hands-down it's not even close.

Every SAF medical centre has a body cooling unit that is functional and regularly maintained. Every SAF MO and medic has the management of heat injuries drilled into their skulls through sheer repetition and weekly (if not more regular) simulation drills.

Walk into any public hospital emergency department and ask the staff where the body cooling unit is and if they know how to operate it. I'll bet my last dollar that only a minority will know where it is and even fewer will actually have used it before. The number of heat injuries a public hospital emergency department sees in a year... an average medical centre probably sees in a fortnight.

I think SAF has really made a push to improve in this area after what happened with the guards NSF previously. Both in terms of prevention and treatment. That's a good thing I think... since Singapore ain't getting any cooler.
