this is a microcosm of Singapore's nanny state mentality

finally someone who echoes my sentiments.

on my street, almost everyone jaywalks from the bus stop to get to the sheltered walkway leading to the HDB block on the other side. hardly anyone ever walks the extra 2-3 mins to cross at the traffic light. in all my years, I have never seen anyone get hit jaywalking. traffic is generally light and there is good visibility of traffic.

one fine day, imagine my horror when I saw the same type of barrier down the median forcing everyone to cross at the lights and thereby wasting 2-3 minutes, sometimes even getting drenched waiting for the light to change when it is raining.

clearly the person(s) who approved this does not live in the area otherwise they would have seen the inconvenience this barrier had caused.
