What's your favorite smell?

If you go to the Magic Kingdom in Disney World, there's this little 4D show where Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck travel through all the princess movies, including Beauty and the Beast. They stop in right at the beginning of the song Be Our Guest where all the food is flying around, and you can vividly smell one of the desserts. The smell is so intense and so lovely, sort of like cherry pie? I could never tell exactly.

But my family used to go to Disney every year for vacation, and it meant a big deal to us. We'd stay at the same deluxe resort, we'd book our reservations six months in advance, the whole nine yards. We're all obsessed, even my typically reserved, quick-tempered dad. I'm 19 now, but we still went last year. It had been a while since we had last gone, so we were incredibly excited. And then we went to that show, and I smelled that almost-cherry-pie-smell that I had forgotten, but loved so much. Then we had to go to home, and I forgot once again.

And then it came back to me. I used my parents master bathroom one day when my sister was hogging ours, and I sneakily used one of my mom's fancy hand soaps and it was that smell again. Black Cherry Merlot it was called, I think. I've never smelled it anywhere else. No dessert, no perfume, no soap has ever smelled like it before, but this one did. I sat on the floor smelling it and day-dreaming for at least 10 minutes before I realised what I was doing. I might've cried a little. So I stole it, and I still have it in my bedroom closet in a secret drawer. I occasionally forget that it's there, but when I remember that it's there, it's like I'm 5 years old again. That's my favourite smell.
