Where do people draw the line between "wanting to have fun" and "being selfish" in group content?

You are overthinking it a bit, but I get where you’re coming from. Firstly, no one is going to think you’re griefing on power vindicator.

Look at your highest impact skill, use those as often as possible. Look at your skills that do CC, use those when CC bar is up, and then dump your big DPS skills on. Look at your skills that give you I-frames or some sort of defensive benefit, use those when you’re being pressured.

That alone will basically get you to 80% benchmark (on golem), and will keep you pumping throughout the entire encounter (in practice). Eventually when you’re solid on these things, you’ll learn the nuances and be able to squeeze in auto attack chains and other skill, swaps, etc.

Point is, you don’t learn something all at once by brute force. You start small and build up.
