world's most annoying plant, why isn't he happy?? I have 5 happy calatheas so I don't think humidity is the issue

Ferns are quite complicated, and very dramatic. Boston Ferns will thrive happily as long as their conditions are met. Mine was much happier after I repotted her into a ceramic planter with a layer of rocks at the bottom to filter out the water. Plant in your typical potting soil, but mix in about a quarter of peat moss. I give her about a cup of water every 3-4 days. Her soil is consistently moist. Not wet, and certainly not sopping, but moist. She also sits on a table that is right in front of a window that allows sunlight in the house in the morning, and bright natural light for the rest of the day. Misting your fern’s leaves will also really help. I just mist every time I water, but a lot of ferns seem to benefit from daily misting.
