Writing Contest - The Butterfly Effect

Hey, here's my entry:

Alistair Longley had never been good at controlling his drink

The end of June, 2567. Alistair remembers it as though it were yesterday. Both teams had left the canyon, to go and fight at snowbound. Not many remained behind, Polade, Blanken and a few others waited in the canyon while the away team battled through hordes of Fotus’. Days before, Doe and Alistair had staged an infiltration on the blue base, stealing a helmet from the captured Fotus in their basement.

Alistair was never the most violent. He always talked as though he was a killer, but in actual fact he shot to incapacitate, not to kill. But that day, after too many drinks, Alistair made the first in a long line of mistakes. He killed him. In cold blood.

But what if he never had a problem with his drinking?

When the war against the blues broke out, Longley felt a certain need to help out his fellow man in the fight against the blues. His skill in battle however, was not good enough. Though he was a good shot with his revolver, he felt outclassed by everyone around him. So, seeking another way to help in the fight against the blue scourge, he discovered his skill in medical assistance. When he was assigned to the canyon, he perfected his skills, becoming an expert in the medical field.

Through the years his medical skills grew, and eventually he perfected a side project of his, nano technology. Using his newly created nanobots, he focussed on fixing genetic and physical problems, eventually allowing them to fix limbs. He implemented this technology on the veteran Lance, fixing his legs. Revered in the canyon as an amazing samaritan and doctor, he soon realised he could do a lot more than win a fight in a canyon.

When the canyon was disbanded, Alistair took the recommendations from his teammates and enemies alike to heart, and joined the central hospital of Paradise. With the new access to technology and money, Longley created various medical advancements, becoming an internationally respected doctor, achieving what he had always wanted, to help others.
