It's Your Fun & Fancy Free Discussion! (February 26, 2016)

I would like to see:

  • The Hellfire Club. It was an 18th century club/secret society comprised of the elite of English society. They had quasi-satanic rituals and orgies with "nuns" (actually pros hired for the parties) in a re-purposed abbey. There was a 1960s version that I haven't seen but was undoubtedly tame for the possibilities in the subject matter and about a dozen or so years ago there was a script floating around with Ewan McGregor attached, but nothing ever came of it. It seems like the sort of sexy and dark costume drama that someone like Neil Jordan could really make an amazing version of.

  • A Madalyn Murray O'Hair biopic. The American Athiest leader is well known for her Supreme Court fight to remove mandatory prayer from public schools and for her tragic kidnapping and murder, but I read a biography of her and her whole life is full of strange chapters that are so outlandish that they sound like fiction. The older O'Hair is the part Kathy Bates was born to play, but it would have to be a double casting with a younger actress in the part for the younger O'Hair (someone like Melissa McCarthy in a dramatic role would be really interesting).

  • A biopic of Pink Flamingos star Divine starring Jonah Hill. This would have to be done sooner rather than later before he gets too old to plausibly play the younger Divine,, but Hill has the star power to get the film financed and he looks a lot like Divine out of drag. If you've ever heard all the crazy stories from John Waters about the early Dreamlanders and their exploits, there is more than enough for a movie there. Perhaps this could be a good vehicle for Waters to return to directing and as he likes to be shocking, nothing would be more shocking than a serious biopic drama from Waters.
