First off, to a large amount of the population YOU are the elite. That dirt your in? Gold compared to some other places.
Second, humans have killed and opressed other humans who they viewed as inferior since the dawn of time. So I want you to imagine this. Imagine a world where people like the Nazis, the Spartans and the colonial slavers are commonplace. Where unaugmented people get trapled on and smacked around by people who literally think of them as things, not people. And when some terrified person asks them who do they think they are, they reply
"We are better than you "
And whos going to argue with them? The 'evidence' is right there.
On the one hand you have some poor, sickly, homely, less intelligent, person who is suffering from all sorts of ailments and 'breaks' easily.
On the other hand you have the beautiful, rich, healthy elite, who can solve differential calculus equations at the age of 8, can run a 4 minuite mile without breaking a sweat, never gets sick, has a lifespan well over a century and has bones you can bend a steel bar over. After millenia of percieved inferiority of others, we now have a legitemate reason for prejudice.
Can you really say, from a biological standpoint they arent better? The employment situation alone would be hilariously one sided. What are you gonna do hire some baseline human, when you could have a literal genius? Who do you trust more for a CEO, the 60 year old guy who slowly but steadily built the company up over decades before turning his first million? Or the fresh 21 year old augment who made the same company 1 billion dollars in a week?
And when people start complaining about "thats not fair" and requesting genetic impartiality, do you think they will get it? Why should they? Its not the augment's fault that their better at everything. Besides, why should business owners hire less capable employees and lose money?
Societally, augments will probably be both glorified and vilified. After they become commonplace people will probably start submitting to augmants in every area, even if they have no more, or even less knowladge than a human in the same , or higher position. Why? Because its expected, from the get go that augments will be better at any action than the average person even if they have no prior knowladge or expertise on that action. If genetic enhancement is introduced in the era of our children and its not free? Hope your rich. Hope your filthy stinking rich, or hope to God the first thing parents decide to augment their children with is an enhanced consience.
