Really solid advice, thank you for the reply. I know FS is not a guarantee until the offer comes so have been acting as if it isn’t a thing yet. The DoD opportunity is a promotion from my current role, would allow me to learn a new skillset in another country, and provide greater opportunity for travel while waiting for FS. I would definitely aim to stick it out for at least 12 months to avoid recoupment of PCS costs.

FS is the end goal though and I want to make the transition sooner rather than later. I was originally concerned that requesting deferment immediately locks you into a 2 year DNC status but another commenter advised that it is not the case.

The RITA issue is a good point, in FS you don’t have to go through the same process? If not that is definitely a big pro.
