Yeah, bully dogs aren’t working dogs. I have never heard of a reputable breeder portray a Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, American Pitbull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, or American Bully as a “working” dog.

While the American Bulldog does fall under that “pit Bull” umbrella by definition, those are actual working bullies. Used as utility dogs on farm and big game hunting (like boar) in some places. Same with the Dogo Argentinos, which aren’t really “pitbulls” per se, but resemble them in look and temperament. They are used for big game hunting, too.

Bullies aren’t usually used for protection either. GSD are because they take orders very well, and can let go as quickly as they latched on if ordered too. The thing with any “Bully breed” is that they are stubborn and strong willed, and that mixed with a terrier (insanely high prey drive) makes them want to finish whatever they set their mind too. A good “guard dog” still needs to be able to take orders and back off when needed. The bully genetic predisposition don’t make them good for guard or police dogs. I’ve never seen an average Joe with a guard American Bully. Any shop with a guard dog has a GSD or Rottweiler.

Every time I see a “kennel” advertising “working” pits and trying to get them as large as possible (don’t know why, not even GSD or rott breeders muscle up their dogs like that) I see it as one of two things: dog fighters in disguise or just really shitty, naive BYB.

I used to think it was common because when I was younger I saw what the Hulk breeder was doing. Turns out, he’s a POS who charges $250,000 for dogs he can’t even control himself. Literally one escaped the vet and the poster he put up said the dog was aggressive. So you have some 200 pound muscled up as fuck “protection” dog that is dangerous, can’t take orders and will basically maul everything and anything it sees.

A guard dog should be one that takes orders and listens to his owner well, not run off with zero recall. And one that isn’t a threat to a public if he got lost, that’s not a guard dog just dangerous.
