Her steps echoed on the cobblestones as she walked towards the Gallery.
They were having an old fashioned masquerade at the Gallery, and she couldn’t think of a better place for it. The young woman had been to that particular museum a hundred times before. but she had never seen it like this. The impressive façade of the building was lit up and the street was buzzing with the sound of people. Women dressed in elegant gowns, men in tuxedos, each and everyone of them with an exquisite venetian mask. All anonymous, and yet, the masks themselves said something about the faces hidden behind them.
She held her beautiful purple dress as she climbed the monumental staircase in front of the building. Her own face was hidden behind a beautiful plague doctor mask, whose colors emphasized the green of her eyes. Had that masquerade taken place anywhere else, she probably would not have gone… She preferred the quietness of her own library, the sounds of the rain hitting the window glass, the warmth of the fireplace. But there was something special about a masquerade in an art gallery. The large rooms seemed to have been built for dancing, and the ancient Greek sculptures here and there seemed to move to the sound of the string instruments playing in a corner.
*She smiled… She did not smile very often, but she actually enjoyed being here. She talked to the piano player for a while and the short chat went from old Disney movies to the latest experiments in the ISS. The music was good, and although she did not know anybody at the dance the paintings in the walls seemed to be there to keep her company. She took a sip of the red wine in her glass and looked to the other side, which is when their eyes met… Just for a second…
He looked around the room , took a sip of brandy and enjoyed the pleasant sound of the orchestrate drifting above the chatter and murmer of the guests. He knew only one person at this party and that was his friend who after some short introductions had disappears in amongst the guests. Normally he would have been annoyed at being left on his own but oddly he felt at ease here in this place. They all look so fancy he thought to himself and and then there's me looking like the eleventh doctor only abit fancier he chuckled to himself...
Then he saw her across the room in a purple dress the plague doctors mask whose colors seemed to make her eyes glisten like the waters of the ocean on a moonlight night. She was smiling and talking to the piano man.. around him all time seemed to slow her beauty capturing his thoughts and attention then theirs eyes met...his heart froze his breath caught in his throat so he looked away pretending to look at the various paintings around the room. He looked back and saw that she had gone ...he scanned the room and saw that she was studying a painting near to were the piano was located.
He was nervous so he finished the brandy in one swig and moved toward her. Normaly he was shy and wouldn't bother approaching woman but there was something about her something that drew him to build up courage to talk to her. Mabey it was the brandy or the place but he just knew.
"Excuse me madam may i have the honor of this dance "... He waited anxiously for her reply...
