5 day budget trip in Rome

Here's how to use Rome's public transport. Your best bet is probably to get a 72-hour Roma Pass then individual 100-minute tickets when it expires. The Roma Pass covers free entrance two two attractions then a discount off many others.

The Roma Pass doesn't cover the Vatican, but you can buy a standard entrance ticket for the Vatican Museums online in advance for €17 plus booking fee.

The cheapest way to get from the Airports is a coach, which gets you to Termini for as little as €5 per head if bought in advance, e.g. from Terravision, the largest provider.

Rome is relatively cheap to eat out if you get out of the tourist center. I'm talking just one or two metro stops, or about 10 minutes' walk. In the outer center of the city you can eat a good two-course meal with wine or beer for around €20 a head. Here I'll give a shout out to one of the best discount deals in town which is Mamma's Trattoria on Via Lorenzo il Magnifico (two minutes from the Bolgna metro stop) - 3 courses of pretty good food for €15 per head.
