Advice for those considering joining the military | Posted due to the Vietnam vet posting

Here's what I don't get. Its seems a great number of Americans, both in uniform and in civvies, talk about the 'tyranny' of government; the whole "Don't Tread on Me" schtick. But these same people will find no issue with putting on a uniform for a government and infliciting pain and humiliation on other people. And it's not just that. Americans tend to pride themselves on being suspicious of government and taxation, to the point where it's become mainstream to call oneself a libertarian. Yet many of these people don't seem to take issue with the massive outlay of tax funds devoted to having military. So you get these people who run their mouths about how inept and stupid government is, and then you find out they served in the military - which is a branch of their government. Finally, based on how much Americans spend on the military and the number of people in it who receive their wages from the government, the United States could be considered one of the most socialistic governments in the world.
