"We ain't come to play school"

I love seeing the ''COLLEGE TUITION IS OVER PRICED AND WORTHLESS NOW DAYS, MEANWHILE PUTTING YOUNG PEOPLE IN DEBT FOR LIFE'' while at the same time the same people say ''oh football players shouldn't be paid for their likeliness making millions for their school, meanwhile risking their life and body to entertain your alumni and fan base/students''.

I don't even know where to begin with this nonsense. First of all "risking their lives" is a bit melodramatic. They're playing a game, not landing on Omaha beach. The odds of an athlete dying during play or practice is about the same as their odds of getting struck by lightning.

Second, you've picked the two most extreme positions to make strawmen out of. Yeah, real easy to make an argument against those positions. You also seem to contradict yourself; if college education is putting young people in debt for life then these athletes are receiving even greater benefits.

There is a real, tangible value in a college education, and while it's harder for athletes to do well it school, they also get educational advantages other students don't. The athletes are also not risking injury simple to "entertain alumni and fans" as you put it. A guy like Cardale Jones chose OSU because OSU has some of the best coaches, best facilities, best media exposure, and best resources to turn him into a millionaire pro athlete. He didn't pick OSU for shits and giggles.

Finally, allowing athletes to profit off their likeness or accept cash compensation would effectively destroy college football. The top recruits would all be cherry-picked by the richest schools and eliminate parity as we know it. I don't know about you but I'd get tired of seeing Oregon play Texas for the national title every year.

If these kids don't like it they can go to the CFL where there is no age limit. But they don't because the truth is they get as much out of the college as the college gets out of them.
