Alpha 13 Megathread

The noncritical among you, please respect my right for an opinion, just like I respect yours.

Yet again, fun pimps have taken the wrong direction. They have long ago enclosed themselves by an insignificant, but very convincing, loud and attention seeking crowd of people on the forums and social media. Those people help maintain a status quo impression that "zombie survival" and singleplayer are the most significant pillars of the game's bright future, while in reality, nobody gives a damn about such things in 2015 (and soon 2016).

I have been an ingame admin on one of the most renowned PVP MP 7DTD servers for quite some time and let me tell you something: there are many people, shockingly many that play your game in a completely different way that the consensual impression being held by your little pink unicorn forum community.

These people are not that different from your mischosen target group of forum dwelling minecraft casuals. They do grind. They do build. But they have gone far enough in gaming to realize one thing: the only real opponent and the only true challenge lies withing the other players, not some stupid AI controlled zombies, which you made look even more stupid by giving them a PEGI12 cartoon appearance in A13.

It is logical to assume that you are streamlining the game because you are unhappy with the sales development. Upon your false induced belief as described above, you are hoping that by making it even more of a "simple to control zombie survival mostly singleplayer game" sales will skyrocket again. Seeying how you have long ago hit market saturation on this premise, I doubt this is gonna help.

Therefore, I would kindly suggest that you stop taking a crap on the heads of the other half of the players which you have always ignored, stop hiding behind "but it is alpha" indefinitely, and start to strive to take a piece of the take from the competition. Take H1Z1 for example, it is owned by an incredibly money greedy company, so it has resorted to releasing a new skin case every second tuesday because it is more profitable than actually pushing new content. That is a dreamlike opponent and a dreamlike market, where everyone has already declared defeat on themselves. Yet you keep working on cartoonish zombies because the forum guys keep telling you thats the way to go big. Sheesh.

Fix the worst ever seen netcode in any multiplayer game. Fix the server performance management and memory leaks. Fix the terrible random gen bugs and add much more variety in it. Add actual endgame goals like taking over economically productive POIs. Make the skill trees mean something.

Unless you have written your kickstarter project as a family season joke, then got shocked by its success and had to adapt to it, made the game in a series of point and click environments with no idea what you are doing and getting more out of the engine you have chosen is impossible for you, because you don't know how.

Then stick to delivering zombie ponies to your forum fans, and let the Rust, Ark, H1Z1 and other devs and players keep laughing at you for the laggy, ugly, directionless PEGI compliant misery you are stuck in.

PS some observations after a decent amount of A13 gameplay:

  • constant "black GUI" bugs for many people
  • micro stuttering and terrible FPS performance even worse than ever
  • weather survival system is bugged, imbalanced and too extreme, at this point it is only tedious not beneficial to gameplay difficulty
  • the new sonds for everything even when you fart are annoying, intrusive and overkill, half should be cut, apparently you have no idea about the role of sounds in games
  • random gen is still broken, not much improvement
  • multiplayer server lag is worst ever
  • random hordes spawning instantly on players head as bad as ever
  • bee sounds playing in the menu everytime you disconnect a server
  • forges and campfires now auto dupe by themselves one does not even have to try to do it, I guess thats a part of your streamlining of the game to casual players

Wake up and get real!
