Am I a narcissistic millennial or are older users dumb as a sack of hammers?

One thing I learned a long time ago was that everyone you meet in this line of work knows something you don't, so it is best to humble yourself.

It can be really hard to ask for help, especially if you are really accomplished in another area and then have to go ask some "kid" (no offense) how to do something and you're met with attitude or a condescending tone. That is probably the quickest way to get shadow I.T. going, when your users no longer want to come to you for help and try to figure it out among themselves.

I always try to keep this in mind when dealing with difficult users. I completely understand getting irritated with management who hire people who need to use a computer in order to get their work done, and they can barely use a computer in the first place. But especially with new people, the test in patience is worth it, especially if you can not only fix the problem, but explain it in terms that they can remember. With new people, they are usually in a high pressure, unfamiliar situation and in a sort of panicked state. If you can be patient with them you can earn a lot of respect down the road after they git situated.
