American school system

I would just like to add your option Does NOT seem weird.
Our school systems are fractured here in America, and each district has different opinions on how things are conducted.

In Primary school here(my area) in 2nd - 5th grade you actually stayed put. Your teachers for various subjects would roll through like you are used to. English, History, Natural Sciences, Math, French ( no idea why), etc.

Some of us were also split among other lines. There were various "middle programs" that would take students out of the general class room 2-3 times per week. Some catered to more advanced students, some focused on those that needed help or remediation on critical skills etc.

This changed for some reason later on, By Middle school it had moved to the "standard" "TV show type" method of students moving classrooms.
