This really makes me angry because my FIL had this happen to him and it broke his heart. His mom died when he was a young boy, his stepmom didn’t like him or his sister and privileged her own children, when his dad died his stepmom got everything and gave to her own children, leaving my FIL and his sister with nothing. Absolutely disgusting behaviour.

I am not a step parent but my mom has a long time boyfriend and he treats me and my brother like so well. They live in a teeny 1 bed flat by the sea and he is super ok with us staying with them in the living room, coming in an out and whatever. My mom is the same towards his kids, even helps babysit his grandchildren etc. Dating someone with kids is understanding they will be part of your life. Once your child grow up they don’t stop becoming your child and need to just be cut out.
