You can definitely dislike Beyonce- she never meant to say you can't, she was responding to attacks she received back then for liking Beyonce, as if there was something outrageous about it or worthy of moral superiority. Since her sound is innovative and her ideas are progressive, there's no reason for any shade on Beyonce, beyond personally not liking/getting it.

If you "have no interest in social activism," you identify with the right, which is fine, but you should be aware of that. Being apolitical is an ideal most of us wish was possible, but it's unfortunately impossible because we live in a political world. You can be interested in social activism without liking Beyonce, but I have a feeling a lot of the anti-Beyonce sentiment is politically motivated lately.

True, some self styled progressives are also opposed to Beyonce (and Lana) for bullshit reasons. I mean, some have criticized Bey for not making transgender issues the center of her song Formation... wtf. I mean not everything is about you. And Lana and Bey, especially Lana (who has never identified as a feminist) both get hate for making songs about wanting men and (in Lana's case) being honest about the ugly and beautiful reality of relationships. Art (or relationships) may be related to politics unavoidably, but it is not identical to politics, and the obvious reason Beyonce is awesome is her music, but she and even Lana also deserve credit for brave and anti-essentialist political positions that allow more kinds of ideas from women into the mainstream of pop than if only the "correct" ones are allowed. That's just my opinion though. I really like a lot of Lana's work and love a lot of Beyonce's work.
