I am an avid writer, it is what I would say is my passion. When I started writing way back when, I just imitated two authors for years: Joyce and Pynchon. You can imagine how insufferable it must’ve been. I think it is only recently—after incorporating some of Beckett’s minimalism, Kafka’s hyper neurotic and nigh psychotic protagonist as well as his ironic distance, Borges’s imagery, Felisberto Hernandez’s imagery, Carver’s prose sometimes, Wallace Steven’s language, and some others —that I’ve started developing something resembling something my own voice and style, though it’s by no means good (as u can also imagine). But yeah, I had a super hard time getting over just writing Pynchon and Burroughs and Hunter S Thompson type stories, or just like pretentious Stephen Deadalus Fanfiction. But even now Pynchon is a huge influence on me in just so many aspect, from analyzing and trying to do some of the things like, for instance, how he will set up a scene, or something in his prose: it honestly depends on the particular story I’m working on because I try and change styles to suit story)..... Also sorry I’m rambling I’m just really fucking stoned rn, but got excited at the question.
