Barely worth it to own an EV these days in the Bay Area.

God damn, there is so much FUD in this thread. I’ve been driving electric for over 5 years now and it’s significantly cheaper than driving gas cars. Yes, even with PG&E’s rates. Yes, even when gas dips to $3.50/gal. And that’s taking into mind the last gas car I daily drove got 30+mpg.

If you really care about wanting to get electric and make it work, do this:

  • Get a Bolt or LEAF for under $30k
  • Get solar before the NEM 3.0 rules go into effect
  • Take tax credits for the car and the solar
  • Still be out less money than buying a Tesla

The Bolt is widely heralded as one of the best cars you can buy today, for the money — gas or electric. Rent a bigger car when you go on road trips. Still save buckets.
