RIP Oakland / Alameda county it's about to be open season on Asian grandmas

This is a really incorrect assessment of Sheng Thao, amid a rise in shootings and homicides, the City Council in September 2021 approved a proposal from District 4 Councilmember Sheng Thao to add more police officers in 2021 and explore adding another academy in 2022. here is a news article https://oaklandside.org/2021/09/22/oakland-fund-police-academy-this-year-amid-rising-violence/

Thao has been critical of the Oakland’s police but has been supportive of hiring more officers in the last few years, a far cry from defunding them.

To be fair to Thao and her fellow council members OPD have also been subjected to federal oversight due to ethical violations so it’s hard not to be critical of OPD, https://www.sfchronicle.com/eastbay/article/Oakland-police-want-to-end-federal-oversight-Two-17494895.php

There was also that sex scandal that cost Oakland tax payers 1 million back in 2017, https://abc7news.com/amp/police-sex-scandal-jasmine-abuslin-contra-costa-county-da-celest-guap/2058525/

as an Oaklander the police department really does deserve scrutiny but Chief Armstrong doe seems to be better, I am hopeful they are turning a new leaf but their past ethical violations does cause some pause
