‘This was beyond heckling, this was harassment': Female Ottawa comedian walks off stage

However, as it's been stated many times this went beyond the run of the mill douche heckle into legitimate sexual harassment.

who stated that many times? the woman who ran away said it differently:

"But a few minutes later, in response to a joke she can’t recall, the same man said “Oh I bet you do,” according to Ms. Grant."

"oh i bet you do" is beyond the run of the mill heckling?

but then, this:

but then a few minutes later, she heard him say “Oh, the things I would do to you” in a tone she describes as “menacing” and “rapey.”

so its not his comments that were "rapey" it was his tone? really? so what we have here is a 16 year vet who literally starts crying because someone makes a stupid joke about wanting to have sex with her and then says "oh the things i would do to you" a few min later? Is that really just completely over the top and crazy?

i mean yeah, its shitty and douchey and what you might expect from a drunk asshole but she's been in all these gritty clubs, right? I mean i'm sorry dude but that is not anything beyond the pale. I have heard worse stuff said to waitresses and they somehow managed to keep working.

Have you ever been sexually assaulted or harassed? Has someone ever made sexual remarks or advances on/toward you that made you extremely uncomfortable and/or violated? If so, did you act based on logic or did you act on reflex?

harassed, yeah. assaulted, no. i have felt uncomfortable and violated, yes. i dont think running away from those situations helps. i think standing your ground and making the other person run away is better both for you and them and society, so that's how i try to handle it.

taking a 20 or 30 second pause, the way this woman describes, is not "reflex". the guy upset her and she couldn't handle it, that's fine. i accept that and i dont even criticize her for it. i doubt my wife could handle similar comments in that situation. maybe i couldn't either. i'm not saying she's a shitty person, i'm just saying if you let someone sitting in the crowd rattle you that bad with that level of relatively tame comment, you should not be a stand up comedian, because alot worse things can and do happen and you have to be in control or else its going to go badly for everyone.

the difference between a 2 second doucey remark that everyone forgets about immediately and one that totally derails the show and ends up in the newspaper is how the comedian handles it, that's all i'm saying.
