The Big Short and an allegation of sexism

The two Goldman execs who make the deal with Christian Bale: woman and South Asian.

They did the same thing Ryan Gosling did, they just didn't think the market would crash. In other words, they made 10's of millions of dollars. They were wrong, not chumps.

The head of the CDO who makes tons of money doing nothing: Asian.

This guy was a figure of corruption, not stupidity. That's why Baum says something about ethics as he's walking away, after their conversation. Again, not a chump.

The naive, careless SEC agent with banking aspirations representing the revolving door: young woman.

You finding her naive and careless is, ironically, a projection of your own sexism. She's the polar opposite of naive. She wants a banking job and is going to us sex to get it. She's in Vegas for that very reason. She even fucking says it. She's also not careless. She's well aware of the legality of what she's doing (i.e. it's legal but might seem illegal - that's like half the conversation she has with Jamie Shipley..)

The corrupt S&P accountant who colludes with the bankers: woman.

First of all, S&P wasn't colluding with the bankers, they were simply looking after their own self-interests, which is a huge theme in the movie.

The only exception are the two mortgage salesmen in Florida, who are white chumps. But they are trashy.

I guess them being trashy exempts them or something? The point is that you have to unethical to do what they're doing.

Now, let's not forget that a black woman is clearly in a position of power of Baum's firm. Or that the whole crash was largely a result of the dealing of men (mostly white). If you say this isn't in the movie, then you ought to watch again and listen to the names being thrown around and who heads those firms (Goldman, Bear, Lehman, etc.). Let's not forget the victim of the crash the film portrays is an interracial family. The celebrity interludes had as many white males as females (Margot Robbie, Bourdain, Thaler, and Gomez). What about the old white male that said he was going to keep buying Bear stock as they were crashing? Was he not a chump?

Your criticism sucks and is as inadvertently influenced by your want to find sexism and racism in everything as you think sexism and racism inadvertently affects everything.

You know one awesome criticism for sexism in the movie? The complete absence of Meredith Whitney. Nobody is talking about that though! I wonder why..
