boogie2988 reacts to fatpeoplehate ban

And before /r/fatpeoplehate[6] denizens shout MUH FREE SPECHES

Well I guess they can't use the "we accept no responsibility for the content posted on our website as it is a free and open forum," to dodge litigation anymore.

/r/fatpeoplehate was not a favourite subreddit of mine either. But it had 150,000 subscribers? Why? The fat acceptance movement has reached an all time high, people cheer on Tess Munster and talk about how "brave" she is. Meanwhile, our public healthcare system (Australia) slowly becomes more unsustainable under the weight of the movement. Obesity has now overtaken smoking as the number one cause of death.

/r/fatpeoplehate was an extreme example of the response to the growing fat acceptance movement. Removing it won't remove the sentiment, now those people will be posting in /r/fatlogic and all the other otherwise level-headed subreddits, they were kept contained to FPH, now all of reddit is their battleground, look at /r/all for fucks sake.

You can generalize 150,000 people all you want and tell us more about how people should behave instead, but that doesn't change the reality of the situation. You can't just change human behavior on a whim. We're talking about a range of age groups here too, I bet if you looked at age demographics for FPH vs Fatlogic you would see a difference in average subscriber age. Good luck getting teenagers to stop acting stupid.

This was a stupid move, as is plainly evidenced, this was very poorly handled. They could have just cleaned up /r/all, blacklisting certain subs. I'd be happier without the million /r/ImGoingToHellForThis "lol it's just a joke not racism lighten up" posts, but I'm not for banning the subreddit outright. As reddit has attracted more users, there was no doubt something needed to happen, but this was the worst possible option, Ellen may have just torpedoed reddit.
