I had one breakup because of high-school ending and another because of college ending, and nothing sucks more than a relationship that ends in part because of distance and life changes. All you can do is accept your situation, grieve, don't hold in your feelings, and eventually get busy and try new stuff.

I actually just got back in touch with my high-school ex and we might be grabbing drinks in a few weeks when I move to a new city, so that'll be interesting.

I only mention this because I wouldn't trade my college experiences and relationships for anything even though dumping her was incredibly painful. Those experiences let me grow into the person I am today, and if it's meant to happen, it'll happen, just let life figure things out for you.
