Evolving it two days prior to the event, when you've had almost a month of time to find out that Beldum CD was going to be a thing in two days, is 100% your own fault. You've actively done everything you could to not get that move on your 100% Metagross. In this scenario you have ignored in-game announcements, you stayed away from any community talk about the specified CD, you avoided any online source of game news, and evolved your CD Pokemon just 2 days before you could have gotten the move.

In a scenario where you evolved one 2 months prior, you saw a 100% IV Pokemon that you wanted to evolve, you had 0 knowledge of any upcoming Beldum event, no one was talking about an event that no one knew was going to happen, no online sources were talking about this non-existent CD, so you reasonably evolved this Pokemon you like.

There is a night and day difference in context between 2 months and 2 days before a CD.
