Cliches that aren’t actually cliches?

I earnestly can only think of maybe one example of the “looks like a kid but is actually 1000 year old whatever so fanservice with them is okay” shit that people use to insult anime as a whole and it’s fans, usually in ways that are either excuses to complain about lolishit (understandable but nobody’s holding a gun to your head to make you engage with it so quit letting it live rent-free in your head) or thinly-veiled excuse to express racism towards Japanese people under the guise of progressive-speak.

On a similar note, “fighting God” and churches being evil in JRPGs. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, but it’s not nearly as common as some people make it out to be and hardly the genre staple people claim it as. It’s kind of like claiming that all actions movies must be about fighting German terrorists just because two Die Hard movies are about fighting German terrorists. Yeah, there are some notable JRPGs that do that, like SMT or FFX, but that hardly means it’s universal in any sense of the word.
