Cold and Flu aisle at my local CVS

lol, never never never do that.

I had a painful ear infection that could have been treated with antibiotics like Augmentin. Well I decided to sleep on it it "because most ear infections go away on their own" per the internet. Well that was a bigggg mistake. Over the night, my ear drum burst and then I went to the doctor to get antibiotics. My ear drum only partial healed (there was a hole remaining for about 30% of the ear drum). The ear infection also did not completely go away.

To make a long story short, after about 30 doctor visits I finally got it PARTIALLY TREATED. A huge dose of antibiotics finally killed the infection. To fix the hole in the ear drum I needed a tympanoplasty and also a mastoidectomy because the infection has spread to my mastoid bone. I saw I was partially treated because now I have a permanent low-grade tinnitus....ringing in my ear. My life was hell for about 2 years during this whole situation.

Overall I had to pay like 7k in copays, deductibles and co-insurance. The hospitals and doctors billed my insurance around 100k for all the services to fix this issue!

So the moral of the story is if you have any health issues, run, don't walk to the doctors so it can be treated as quickly as possible. Otherwise you end up like me with extended complications.
