Is it common for people in our country to have housekeepers or is that only for rich folks?

My grandparents and some other people I know have a "24h help" from eastern european countries who live there (in a seperate room) and help with everyday work.

If I'd try to be optimistic, I'd say it's a win-win - they get paid pretty well for basicly "just living there" (cooking, washing dishes/clothes, buying groceries, but mainly be there just in case). More realistic: we gave our "help" the same christmas presents we gave other familiy members, to say we think of her as "Family".... but eyeryone could tell she'd rather be with her family in romania

Apart from taking care of old family members, the only people I know who had "housekeepers" were either rich or liked others to believe they are rich
