Are private schools better than public schools in your country?

I dont know much bout private schools in Hungary, but i know that public schools are very different across the country.

There are some "elite" public schools where very diligent kids go (+ whoose parents have money and will to tutor them to pass the entry exam).

As far as i know, these schools are decent, and people who graduated there mostly end up in higher education. (Most of our politicians are coming from these schools.)

If you meet a Hungarian studying abroad, the chances are high that they are coming from one of these high school.

The average public schools are bad. The teachers are underpaid and burned out. Considerable amount of kids coming from problematic families, so they are messy and disrespectful, holding back the whole class, and eventually many of them will drop out after their 16th birthday.

For example: I graduated from a rural high school. In the first year we started with 42 people, 4 years later only 23 of us graduated. Two girls dropped out because they got pregnant, some boys started working ect.

We had no physics teacher during our last 2 years, and had no math teacher in the 2nd and 3rd year.

Most of the teachers are in the 40's and 50's because only extremely dedicated people (or people who have other sources of income) can work as a teacher while their starting salary is around 170.000 HUF (~430 euros).

I would not send my child to Hungarian public schools.
