Consumer rights and Razer's recent 50% off sale

Lets say they sold 2000 products with 50% off in 5 minutes. Do you think this is baiting, when 2000 people got the discount? They really made it clear how this will be a limited offer and that you actually need luck to get the promotion.

That's the thing, the ACCC says that if there isn't a "reasonable chance the offer will be available at the advertised price, you may be in breach of the ACL". It may be the difference between American law and Australian law, but there you have it.

2000 products is tiny when the region they're allowing to participate is the entirety of Asia-Pacific. They advertised it like a sale, and consumers will enter the store website with the expectation that they can buy a product at a discounted price. The consumers are misled.

The majority of consumers were also not even given the chance to purchase said items, due to server crashes and the 5-minute-long timeframe. These were not reasonable.

They also have had prior experience as to the demand during such sales, to similar results. They had people sign up first for the sale, and that should indicate the level of demand. They knew very well that they will not satisfy this demand, and yet they advertised anyway.

Of course, there is a way out, and it's even suggested by ACCC: give out rainchecks regarding the offer—obviously they have no intention of doing so, when all they wanted was some goodwill.

you actually need luck to get the promotion

Um... no. They did not. Not before the promotion, and not explicitly anyway. And if you would read any of the comments on the Facebook page, they clearly didn't do a good job of communicating that. They did do a great job of communicating 50% off ALL gaming peripherals though.

In the end you are just salty you did not get it.

Maybe before you try to character-assassinate me, I would have you know that I already have a mouse (G700s), and would've been interested in a Mamba only to try it out as a dock-recharging mice. This is only $150 extra for me to spend on a decent pair of cans (eyeing the HD598s), and I posted because I was intrigued that people let this shady practice continue without anyone raising concern.
