I think in this case it depends on how they handle the treason. Around 60 people vanished and someone has to be to blame. Will Gilead know they got out on a plane? If so how would they know? If not how would they explain away the fact that 60 people vanished? Will they just sweep it under the rug? How far do we skip forward? I think the immediate aftermath of the treason is vital. Gilead would be at a major code red. I think if they skipped over anything major, we would call it bad writing or too many gaps that the story no longer makes sense. Six months would be too long a wait for the aftermath but good for the parts you explained. I don't know if there is a happy middle to make S4 flow better.
