Was the Crucifixion Christ's defeat or Christ's victory?

To your point, the attributes you mention in your "victory" perspective mirror closely enough to that of the attributes of those blessed in the beatitudes in the sermon on the mount in Matthew (i.e. those of the kingdom of God), that the juxtaposition of your thoughts of the victory of the cross with the character of the kingdom of God in the beatitudes is really thought provoking. Come to think of it, if you look at the version of the sermon in Luke where the "woes" are included, those attributes mirror somewhat your perspective on seeing the cross as a defeat. It's an important lesson on perspective, I'm sure, and a lot to think about. Especially with the implications of the empty tomb on which perspective is ultimately true.
