what feedback have psychiatrists given you?

it could be a million different things, its hard to tell without seeing you in action. you could be coming off as rude or condescending without realizing it, or you just don't click with the people you speak to. if your moods or behavior are inconsistent that can also be offputting to people. you remind me of this guy i worked with who, like yourself, didn't have the best experiences growing up. he spent most of his free time alone and still does, so he probably missed out on developing social skills by trial and error like the rest of us did. at first i thought he was just a jerk, or maybe even a sociopath because he was way too good at knowing what to talk about. like most people when they make small talk they just talk about whatever. maybe one of them remembers the other said they were going out of town last time they talked so they'll ask how it went. this dude remembered things i had said from years ago and would randomly bring them up when we talked. like if i had mentioned indiana jones one time he'd bring that up out of nowhere even though he's not into indiana jones himself. that alone would have been flattering and kind of cute except he was also totally socially blind otherwise. like we got coffee a couple times and i bought the first time but he didn't offer to buy the second time. or we would carpool and instead of waiting in the car and ringing up to say hes arrived he would ring the doorbell two or three times and wake up the neighbors (apartment living, thin walls). he would wear the same outfit for two or three days in a row even if it had a stain. one time in a meeting he stared down one of our clients and badgered him with questions to the point that the client commented on how rude he was. he also has a tendency of tuning out when other people talk or giving one word answers, generally seeming disinterested, but then when its his turn to talk suddenly he's interested in you.
