Hah, sort of what /u/Beersaround said. I have two kids, I am fair in the fact that I never waiver. If I have said I will do something, punish for something or reward something. I will do it.
I set deadlines, I put them on the calendar and I make them known and readily available to be seen. If they are missed I don't give a second chance. If the kids don't get their homework done? Too bad. They will get it done next time. Didn't finish a project? Guess whose getting a zero. Teacher cuts you a break? Nice! Do your work. I won't.
There are obviously times when I WILL make an exception, but they know not to expect that.
That being said, I'm not a super asshole. I am affectionate, I love my kids, we play all the time. I still read to them, they are vegetarian and I am a meat eater and I relearned how to cook so they wouldn't be eating meat (Daughter still eat eggs, son does not) because I respect their discipline. I am their father, not their friend. That doesn't mean I can't be their companion though, it just means that I will do what is best for them no matter what. Even if they hate me momentarily.
