So when they start off romancing Morrigan and defending them from Flemeth and all, mystified by all the wonders of a life in the woods similar to the Dalish, they're woo'd for a time. Long enough to bare a kid, unbeknownst to them. But then they start to fall for Leliana seriously, not some intrigue that romanticizes Morrigan's background and makes her appealing.

Apologies abound but Morrigan as we know, makes the break-up transition easier and attempts to be friends nonetheless. And then the whole ordeal with Leliana and protecting her. All those catfights between the duo, but Leliana's got comfort, care. Accepted for who she is, and reassured she can be who she is without worry.

But then the Warden refuses the Dark Ritual, not wanting to hurt Leliana. And let's say they put Alistair on the throne but spared Loghain for an extra kick.

Morrigan's child has no father and Morrigan herself is left with the child of a departed former lover.

Leliana has lost two of the dearest people close to her and cherished and showed her new worlds only to have them ripped and torn from her grasp, perhaps by Maker's will...and then Justinia's demise.

Alistair's dear Grey Warden friend spares them death, but betrayed them in the worst way. And then they died. Bitter and emotionally exhausted by all of it, worst of all Loghain living where he could've taken their friend's place.

And Loghain, a Warden with the darkest mark on his name in both his new order, and the nation he adored.")

Gotta love sad endings.
