Or we're just poor atheletes when it comes to sports like football.

Football hasn't been popular for very long in India and even now falls far behind cricket.

It isn't the most popular sport in Australia either. Plus, it actually is the most popular sport in states like West Bengal, Kerala and in several states north east. On an individual level, these states have populations that far eclipse the population of Australia. I'd say the number of football fans in India is far greater than the entire population of Australia as well.

Besides we've had other things that are not sports on our minds. Being exploited for a few hundred years by English bastards who stole all they could and put nothing back takes time to recover from.

Ridiculous excuses tbh. For one, the whole of India is not some hive mind that worries about one problem at a time. Two, we clearly have time for sports like cricket, and we do relatively well other sports such as tennis and badmiton. There are countries ravaged by years of war that do way better than us at football. There are better and more valid excuses like the lack of infrastructure and opportunities for a career in sports in India. Still doesn't completely explain why we're so terrible at football and athletics in general but they're definitely good reasons.
