Darkest Dungeon: too punishing given lack of information about game mechanics

What you're making it sound like is that you want to have a perfect playthrough with little to no adversity/challenge which seems to be the central theme to the game. Facing adversity. The punishing aspect for most situations are there to force you to change how you approach a problem when new information comes to light. Sometimes you wont be prepared, sometimes you a great team comp/abilities for a specific situation, sometimes you just get fucked by rng. So falling back and regrouping and adjusting your strategy is necessary. If you get all that info up front then it kind of robs you of that sense of accomplishment for coming up with your own solution.
