[Discussion] Pop music is not "real music"? (superbowl comments)

Why do you guys care so much about top20s?

If you're a pop fan, the top 20 reflects what we're enjoying. Sorry, that's how it is. For example, tons of pop heads loved Zero 7-era Sia, but we all knew that she wasn't getting mainstream love. Her entry into the Hot 100 mattered because she became more accessible and more known.

I think you mean well, but a rock fan mocking a pop fan for caring about the top 20/40/hot 100 is just as dumb as a pop fan mocking a rock fan for wanting to "only listen to shit that's not mainstream, maaaaaan." Like, it's silly. We're not in high school. You can love and follow the Top 40, you can only love things outside the mainstream, whatever. It's not a competition.

Pop radio stations play whatever is new right now, and completely forget about those songs after a year or two.

... said your great-grandma about Elvis and your grandpa about the Jackson 5. Bruh, come on. You sound like the designated "punk rock rebel" in a Disney family sitcom right now.
