Yeah, if you read it in context, this is obviously an insensitive choice of words referring to her life as a touring musician (see also: her use of g-slur, which was often used in the western music scene to refer to traveling musicians). Many artists stop paying rent in their “home” city during tours because they tour so much that it’s not economical, instead they move their stuff to friends’ and find a new place when (or if) they ever return. In this case she never did return to live in Montreal. She toured continuously for almost all of 2012 and then in December when she delayed the rest of the tour due to tinnitus and vocal issues, she moved to the west coast of Canada and then to LA. So it was literally true at the time in early 2012 that she didn’t have a permanent residence. She can be faulted for thoughtlessly using the word homeless, but in this particular interview, she’s not making any attempt at poverty cosplay, it’s clear what she means—she is a traveling musician.
