Regarding the California Senate primary. Because of the top two primary system, Adam Schiff winning almost certainly requires him to be facing a Republican in the general election. If it's like the 2016 or 2018 Senate races, he would be facing a fellow Democrat.

2016 there isn't a real apparent coalition. But in 2018, the map was Dianne Feinstein winning the densely populated, super Democratic coast. While Kevin De Leon won the rest of the state, including Hispanic and Republican areas. Despite his rhetoric being more left-wing, Republicans went against the sitting incumbent. Of course, they turned out to be correct, as he turned out to be a huge racist.

But the race could be Barbara Lee vs Adam Schiff, or Katie Porter vs Adam Schiff, and they would likely win the bulk of Republican votes. Along with progressive voters, and perhaps regional affiliated voters. Despite being progressive women going up a former blue dog. Because he was the face of the impeachment of Trump.
