incredible stuff is happening in california. because of how many homes have solar, the grid actually has net negative energy consumption during the day. the problem is, in the evening there's a super steep curve as solar stops generating demand.

luckily, at home + grid batteries should (barring our beloved CEQA) come online making that steep transition easier. this could all be avoided with nuclear, and ca dems for the first time in 70 years seem amenable to it (see: diablo canyon bailout), but of course CEQA defacto prevents it so i doubt that'll ever happen
