My parents' divorce was pretty nasty. I was 12 or 13 at the time. My mom said that she no longer loved my dad. She moved out and a few months later my curret step-dad moved in. Both my parents separated, divorced and remarried within 14 months. Things were pretty uncivil between the two such that I often had to carry the child support check between them. At one point, my mom put my dad in jail for threatening her and eventually had to go through anger management. I am sure he did as we have tempers but tbh the anger management helped him so true or not, it worked out in the end.

My sister found dated love letters between my mom and step dad while my mom and dad were still together. When my mom started to receive social pressure about it, she began to claim that my dad hit her and had also tried on multiple occasions get her to swing. My dad has anger issues, sure, but we had never once seen my dad hit our mom so we pretty much called BS on that one. Furthermore, my dad is a pretty 'straight and narrow' kinda guy, so it is hard imagining him to be a swinger (although statistically not impossible).

At any rate, my mom didn't pay a car payment like she was supposed to while my parents were separated. Because my dad was a cosigner, Wells Fargo raised the APR of one of his credit cards from like 10% to 30%. He ended up having to borrow 10k from my grandpa just to close the card.
