Does anyone know of any non-religious sobriety based groups? I want to go to AA but I'm a staunch atheist.

Good luck with it all. I cannot guide you to any places, but I just wanted to wish you well.

I have a few many days of the week, as I'm sure do lots of people. I abstain a couple of days a week, usually, to give my liver time to repair.

Cirrhosis of the liver is nothing to be celebrated, seems like an awful thing indeed.

My half brother back in the UK is addicted to the stuff, he grew up in our Dads pub, and was getting drunk at 12 years old, kinda born into it I suppose. Before I went back 7 years ago he was poo-ing and vomiting blood. He was hiding bottles of spirits around the house, so quite out there.

His life is not going too well and I feel for him cause he had a great, well paying job, but in recent years doesn't seem to last too long anywhere.

A few stories from my local.

An old boy recently passed away, top bloke, always bought a smile to everyones face, ex Vietnam vet, he is sorely missed. Anyway, his organs had packed up and he knew he was not long for this world.

The last time I saw him, yes had beers with him, cause he never stopped, he had just had 7 litre of fluid drained, and he looked ghastly and yellowish. He died a few weeks later.

Another local that is a self confessed alcoholic is currently undergoing tests for cancer and possibly other complications regarding his guts.

His Father daily drank 1 bottle of Vodka in the day, and 1 bottle of whiskey at night, every day, he was an awful wife and children beater, he died at 38.

Last story, a man and a woman, strangers to most of us at the pub, were completely shitfaced in the late afternoon a few weeks ago. They came and sat with us. They had both just got out of re-hab.

Stone me ! they had just gone through that and thought it would be a great idea to go to a pub and get shitfaced, poor buggers.

Anyway, I hope you get the help you need, please persevere and try not to come off the rails.

Good luck.
