A dozen Native American actors walked off the set of Adam Sandler's latest film due to offensive stereotypes

I agree completely that it's distasteful but what about other media (no debate intended, just posing my thoughts and questions).

What about "Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking your Juice in the Hood" (looked this movie up on IMDB to make sure the title was correct and can't believe it's low rating, I've not met many (black or white) who didn't find the movie hilarious)?

Is it okay because the Wayans brothers are black and were primarily making fun of 90's African American gangster stereotypes, primarily in California - Los Angeles, California? What about the times in the movie where they stereotype and ridicule whites, Hispanics, and Asians? Was that okay? I don't want to hear any "blackface" analogies because this movie is nowhere near as controversial or distasteful and has been made rather recently depending on your perspective.

What about the hundreds of other movies that've been made post-1990 with similar themes, jokes, and "racism"? You can't tell me "Peter Chao" didn't have racial insensitivity written over his "tiny-penis'ed" Asian male character, degrading an entire gender of one huge population of the world.

I'm sure there's many, many other examples. What makes my comment a question and not a debate is this: I've made this post simply for the purposes of something like "Ask Reddit". I'm interested in your opinion. In the end, there's no right or wrong on what offends who simply because the lines have been blurred so much lately that it's hard to tell. We live in a politically correct culture that leaves a dark, very racially tense past in its wake and it continues to affect us today. While these Native Americans didn't commit an attack of retaliation, isn't this the same debate (albeit different circumstances and extremes) about Mohammad cartoons?

I'm not /trying/ to be offensive but part of me feels this is only a big deal because the jokes in the article weren't funny, Adam Sandler has gotten a bad reputation over the years and Internet hate has made people dislike him more than he probably deserves for putting out "comedy lemon" movies which he probably can't help because, a lot like a musician, if you don't like an artist's work or their "new" work, that's just the way it is.

Do you really feel this different than hundreds of other movies?

Honestly, I'm part Cherokee (no, I'm not just a redneck who claims Cherokee like everyone in America but I'm also not a part of the community). My great grandmother was full-blooded Cherokee and I have a tanned complexion and the blackest hair you'd see on a "white guy" (European mut for the rest of me, mainly German and French). I've seen movies that made even ME, someone who doesn't identify with that fraction of my genetics offended. This I found distasteful but not defensive, obviously the Apache have a right to feel that way. To put this in perspective, I also want NFL's "Redskins" to change their name. Hell, I've been more offended by movies' portrayals of the German and French at times, that being part of me.
