Dylann Roof to jury: 'I do not regret what I did, I am not sorry'

It's tragic but when you hold whites in perpetual contempt in every way imaginable, you will push people to be like this.

But...why attack black people in a church for that? You have to realize that for minorities in the US, "white people" are just a fact of life. They are like the weather. They complain about it because it is ubiquitous and affects them on a daily basis. Most don't really hate the weather. Most of the time its great, but other times it fucks up your life. Most of the people complaining will never raise a hand against a white person. They will never advocate for a law that removes a human right from a white person. They will never harm a white person in any way.

Let's put it this way. Virtually every non-white person in this country has a white friend.

There are angry non-white people who are violent. There are Dylann Roofs who aren't white. That's a conversation for another post.

Dylann Roof wasn't angry that black people believe incorrect things or hated white people in a general way. He already hated black people. He just needed a catalyst and a reason to justify it. If you read his notes, you can see that his views are of an isolated kid who doesn't know much about the world. He thought that reading the internet made him more aware of things, but it basically corrupted his understanding. He became very aware of the world through the lenses of hate, and the endless justifications it entails. He believed that a "white genocide" was happening, but the logic to get from that to killing some people in a church praying to Jesus is a long sociopathic jump. You have to view "black people" as some type of group consciousness where any individual's single action is caused and can be attributed to the whole. A single abstraction to hate. Which we do see, all the time, when we ask black people as a whole to answer for the crimes of individuals.

He thought that starting a race war would protect his ethnicity from corruption, and that's the basis behind what drove him to kill.

I have no choice. I am not in the position to, alone, go into the ghetto and fight. I chose Charleston because it is most historic city in my state, and at one time had the highest ratio of blacks to Whites in the country. We have no skinheads, no real KKK, no one doing anything but talking on the internet. Well someone has to have the bravery to take it to the real world, and I guess that has to be me. -- Dylann Roof
