Both are disorders in regard to natural attraction. (When I say natural I mean in terms of which form of attraction is most prevalent. Heterosexuality is the most prevalent form of sexual orientation in humans by far. This is what I am referring to as "normal" for sake of keeping this short. I by no means believe homosexuality to not be "normal" but that it is less prevalent than heterosexuality. )

With that said, I think it is impossible to change someones attractions. If you are attracted to the opposite sex from birth this is how you are wired. There is no changing it. (Just as in those who are heterosexual, there is almost no wiggle room for changing their mind to become homosexual)

I really do not like grouping paedophilia with homosexuality when talking about this topic because even though any semi-educated person reading may not associate two negatively, you will have some idiot reading this then making the connection "Homosexuals are pedos!!!$#@"

I think that is dangerous as homosexuality is not inherantly dangerous for both parties involved where as paedophilia is very obviously dangerous for at least one party involved(the adolescent).

With all that bouncing around above, my point is this.

We are born with our attractions. Something happens in the womb or through genetics which causes these "disorders" to occur.

I think it is time we stop trying to "cure" these disorders and in turn learn to manage them. (When I say them I really mean manage those who have a negative effect on others. Namely, pedophilia. )

Unfortunately, this is not a simple issue as many people hold pedophiles in a very low light and do not think of their condition as a mental disorder but more as the person being a "monster"

We must do what is necessary to curb dangerous disorders in regard to attraction (pedophilia) but in other disorders (such as homosexuality) we must accept and support as "curing attraction" is impossible.

As someone who was affected by a pedophile at a young age, I believe in a very straight forward and rash approach to curbing pedophilia.

Castration.

This may seem off the wall but it is the only way to almost assuredly take out dangerous tendencies in regard to attraction the pedophile experiences.

This cannot be an option for homosexuality as homosexuality is not inherantly dangerous to the general public.

Pedophilia is.

Focus on what is dangerous and allow what is not to live as they wish. This is how we should treat many "social issues" in my opinion.
